This is a B-Stock Ex Showroom product.

The Neumann KM 184 microphone is the successor of the well proven KM 84, which has been used since the seventies worldwide with great success. The slender shape and transmission characteristics described below make the Neumann KM184 especially suitable for a very wide range of tasks in the radio and television sector. It is extremely quiet (16dB A-weighted self-noise), making it excellent for capturing the subtle nuances of acoustic guitar and orchestral perf ormances .

Although the KM 184 has the same capsule as the Neumann KM 84, the microphone differs slightly on the 0 frequency response: The KM 184 has a gentle rise at about 9 kHz, a characteristic that was introduced very successfully with the KM 140. The result is a tonal balance that is fresher and livelier when compared to the KM 84 with its flat frequency response in that band. This difference was achieved with just a slight change of the capsule's rear opening, and is not due to resonances. Compared to the KM 84 the dynamic range of the KM 184 increased by 21 dB mainly through the reduction of self- noise level to only 25 dB (CCIR) and an increased sound pressure handling capability of up to 138 dB. The microphone operates without any problems, even if the input of following equipment happens to be unbalanced, for example as in some DAT/CF recorders. The output of the KM 184, as in all Neumann microphones, is balanced and phantom (48V) powered.

The KM 184 is a good choice for all users who look for a high- quality miniature microphone, but do not need the complex, modular KM 100 system, which continues to be part of the Neumann product range. The mechanical construction was simplified for this model, for example, capsule and output stage cannot be separated from each other. For this reason the KM 184 is an economical alternative without giving up the electroacoustic features the users expect from Neumann microphones.

Neumann KM184 Stereo Set Features

Set includes:

2 x Microphone KM 184(mt) - Nickel

2 x Stand mount swivel SG 21/17

2 x Windscreen WNS 100

Wooden box

Trouble-free operation also with unbalanced equipment (e.g. DAT/CF recorders)

Set includes windshield and two different microphone clamps

Low Noise - 16dB A-weighted self-noise

Varied Applications

Specifications

Directional pattern: Cardioid

Acoustic operating principle: Pressure gradient transducer

Frequency range Hz: 20 - 20,000

Sensitivity mV/Pa: 12 (-36.2dBu=+38.4dBv)

Rated impedance Ohms: 50

Equivalent loudness level due to inherent noise: DIN 45 405 CCIR 468-3 dB: 25, DIN/IEC 651 dB-A: 16

S/N ratio re 1 Pa at 1 kHz: CCIR dB: 69 (S/N=94dB - equiv. noise), A-weighted dB-A : 8

Max. By focusing on this pattern – used in most recording situations – the attenuation of unwanted rear sound has been optimized. Off-axis sounds are rendered naturally while isolation is increased. This also leads to a high feedback suppression when the microphone is used in live situations or where loudspeaker playback is a factor.

Acoustic features
The TLM 103 is addressed from the front, marked with the red Neumann logo on the microphone body. The K 103 large diaphragm capsule is based on the K 87, well known from the U 67 / U 87 microphones. The capsule has a flat frequency response up to about 5 kHz, and above that, a wide flat 4 dB presence boost.

The large wire mesh headgrille protects the capsule from plosive sounds and effectively prevents pop noises. These characteristics are achieved without resorting to corrective resonance effects.

Therefore, the microphone maintains an excellent impulse response and reproduces the finest details of music and speech without coloration.

Electrical features
With just 7 dB-A / 17.5 dB CCIR the self-noise level of the TLM 103 is so reduced that even the smallest signals are reproduced basically noise-free. Among other things this technology, also used in the U 87, is characterized particularly by a wide dynamic range. The K 47 double large-diaphragm capsule was already employed in the U 47, the legendary tube-based predecessor of the U 47 fet. The K 47 provides a slight boost in the range above 2 kHz.

If required, a switchable low-cut filter raises the lower cutoff frequency electronically from 40 Hz to 140 Hz, thus suppressing undesirable low frequencies (such as impact sound and wind noise), or serving to compensate for the proximity effect. Switchable attenuation can reduce transmission levels by 10 dB, facilitating the processing of very high sound pressure levels of up to 147 dB. In addition, to prevent overloading of the connected preamp, the output signal can be reduced by 6 dB via a switch on the bottom of the microphone.

In order to ensure stable positioning, the microphone is swivel-mounted on an integrated bracket. The bracket stand connector has 5/8"-27 internal thread, with an adapter for 1/2" and 3/8" threads. The microphone cable can be secured at the side of the stand connector, by using the knurled nut to fasten it in the slot (for cable diameters of up to 5 mm). The U67 is one of the most sought after microphones that been out of production for decades. The Neumann U 67 is a universal studio microphone suitable for all applications. Its smooth top-end with a subtle tube shimmer makes the U 67 an outstanding vocal microphone. Due to its essentially linear response in three polar patterns – omni, cardioid, and figure-8 – the U 67 is also a very versatile microphone for all kinds of instruments such as strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, drums, acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar and upright bass.

Introduced in 1960, the U 67 was the quintessential studio workhorse throughout the formative years of modern music. Today, more than ever, its inimitably smooth sound continues to be in high demand. Now, for the first time in decades, Neumann’s legendary tube microphone is back in production, built to the original specifications.

Others have tried to imitate the U 67, but Neumann have referred back to archived documentation and the re-issue is sonically identical to the U 67 made from 1960–1971. It uses the same capsule and electronic design. Key parts, such as the BV 12 output transformer, are meticulously reproduced according to original documentation. EF86 tubes are carefully selected for optimal characteristics and lowest noise in a dedicated measurement facility. The power supply was redesigned to meet today’s strict safety requirements and to accommodate the slightly higher filament current of newer premium grade tubes. The new power supply NU 67 V is fully compatible with older U 67 microphones.

Return of a Legend
Introduced as the successor to the eminent Neumann U 47, a lesser microphone would have failed. But the U 67 was quickly adopted as the new studio standard, offering many advantages over its predecessor. With three selectable polar patterns and advanced tube circuitry, including low cut and pad switches, the Neumann U 67 was well-equipped for virtually any recording task. It still is: To this day, many top level engineers would choose the U 67 as their "desert island" microphone for its extraordinary versatility and unmatched sound quality.

Neumann-Engineering at its Best
The U 67 was the first microphone equipped with the famous K 67 capsule, which has since become associated with “the Neumann sound” and continues to be used in its successor, the U 87 A. No less important is the U 67’s masterful tube circuit featuring a clever pre-emphasis/de-emphasis scheme to minimize tube hiss. The U 67 was also the first microphone to address modern recording techniques such as close miking. Its switchable low cut filter compensates for the proximity effect occurring at short recording distances. Using its preattenuation, the U 67 can handle high sound pressure levels of up to 124 dB without distortion (and much more if you don’t mind a bit of "tube grit").

As timeless as its sound and technical design is its outer appearance. The U 67’s cone-shaped body and the tapered headgrille have since become iconic for the Neumann brand; the same elegant design would grace its solid state successor, the U 87, for the next 50+ years.

Neumann U67 Features

Classic tube circuit, transformer balanced
Reissue of the legendary Neumann U 67
Made to original specifications using archived documentation
New power supply NU 67 V automatically adapts to the local mains voltage
Handmade and hand soldered in Germany
Balanced sound in three polar patterns
Vintage case, handmade in Germany

Specifications

Acoustical operating principle: Pressure gradient transducer

Directional pattern: Omnidirectional, cardioid, figure-8

Frequency range: 20 Hz ... 20 kHz

Sensitivity at 1 kHz into 1 kohm: 15/24/16 mV/Pa1)

Rated impedance: 200 ohms

Rated load impedance: 1 kohms

Equivalent noise level, CCIR2): 32/28/31 dB1)

Equivalent noise level, A-weighted2): 21/17/20 dB-A1)

Signal-to-noise ratio, CCIR2) (rel. 94 dB SPL): 62/66/63 dB1)

Signal-to-noise ratio, A-weighted2) (rel. 94 dB SPL): 73/77/74 dB1)

Maximum SPL for THD 0.5%3): 114 dB (cardioid)

Maximum SPL for THD 0.5% with preattenuation3): 124 dB

Maximum output voltage: -9.8 dBu

Power Supply: NU 67 V

Matching connectors:

Microphone: spec. 7pin

Power Supply: XLR 3 F

Weight: 560 g

Diameter: 56 mm

Length: 200 mm

Neumann U87 Ai - B-Stock

The Neumann U87 Ai is a large dual-diaphragm, multi-pattern condenser microphone in a nickel finish. When you hear masterpieces from legends like Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, or Barbra Streisand, or today´s top talents like Adele, you hear an M 49 at work. Its transformerless output stage ensures superb performance at an attractive price.

With digital recording and ultra-clean processing, many engineers find themselves looking for tube microphones to reinstate a more “analogue” sound character. The Neumann M147 is a tube microphone specially designed for 21st century recording chains. Its acoustic design is inspired by the legendary U 47, which revolutionized studio recording in the 1950s with its superior sound quality and is still used daily in top studios around the world. The head amplifier of the M147 combines classic tube circuitry with an advanced solid state output stage for vintage sound with a modern punch.

The headgrille of the M 147 is more than a visual statement: It is a slightly more compact version of the iconic U 47 capsule head, partly responsible for its legendary sound. Even more importantly, it shares the same sound transducer, the classic K 47 large diaphragm condenser capsule, known for its exceptional combination of warmth and presence. The capsule signal is amplified by a classic tube circuit using a specially selected subminiature triode. While vintage microphones relied on large and expensive audio transformers for the final impedance conversion, the M 147 uses a state-of-the-art transformerless solid state output stage, which allows for long cable runs up to 300 m without transmission losses and ensures a very direct sound with unrestricted bass response.

Applications

The M 147’s unique sound character with unsurpassed presence and a distinctive midrange focus is ideally suited for vocals, both male and female, as well as speech applications such as voice-over and film dubbing. The M 147 is also an excellent spot mic for any solo instruments. Unlike many other tube microphones, the M 147 can be used for quiet sources, due to its exceptionally low self-noise of only 12 dB-A. Although its max SPL figure of 114 dB appears low, the M 147 works well with louder sources, too, as distortion rises very slowly to 5% THD for 134 dB SPL. This behavior is intentional: The M 147 creates a sense of elevated loudness by means soft saturation – just like in the days of analog recording.

Same K47 capsule design as the legendary Neumann U 47

Cardioid pattern

Classic sound with unmatched presence

Tube circuit with extremely low self-noise

Transformerless output stage

Comes with power supply

Specifications

Acoustical operating principle: Pressure gradient transducer

Directional Pattern: Cardioid

Frequency Range: 20 Hz ... 20 kHz

Sensitivity at 1 kHz into 1 kohm: 20 mV/Pa

Rated Impedance: 50 ohms

Rated load impedance: 1 kohms

Equivalent noise level, CCIR 1: 24 dB

Equivalent noise level, A-weighted 2: 12 dB-A

Typical SPL (tube characteristic) for K<0.5% 3: 114 dB

Typical SPL (tube characteristic) for K<5% 4: 134 dB

Signal-to-noise ratio, CCIR (re. 94 dB SPL) 5: 70 dB

Signal-to-noise ratio, A-weighted (re. 94 dB SPL) 6: 82 dB

Maximum output voltage: 8 dBu

Dynamic range of the amplifier, DIN/IEC 651, for THD < 0.5% 7: 102 dB

Dynamic range of the amplifier, DIN/IEC 651, for THD < 5% 8: 122 dB

Power supply: N 149 A

Matching connector: Microphone: DIN 8 F, Power Supply: XLR 3 F

Weight: 460 g

Diameter: 57 mm

Length: 142 mm

Colour: Nickel

Cat.
