AEA KU4 - Supercardioid Ribbon Microphone
The AEA KU4 is a supercardioid ribbon microphone that provides excellent of-axis rejection, minimal proximity effect and accented mid-range, making it a prime choice for vocal recording. Its near-field nature also lends itself to close range recording of kick drums, strings and woodwinds, providing a welcome brightness and balance.
The KU4’s supercardioid polar pattern is optimal when spill from other instruments needs to be minimalised, such as in a live recording session or live performance.
Unlike most traditional ribbon mics, the the KU4’s placement should be thought in terms of inches instead of feet with the mics proximity effect kicking in six inches away from the source. Of course, the KU4 can also be positioned at some distance from the sound source. It will just have a more balanced sound from up close.
The KU4 can handle 140+ dB SPL at 1 kHz. That means it will not be hurt by loud sound sources.
