Dual Stereo RiAA Turntable Pre-Amp PAK

Alice dual stereo RiAA amplifier MKII

The Alice dual RiAA pre-amplifier has been redesigned for broadcast use with quality vinyl records. We also included an additional feature to cater for the vinyl mastering community by including a high output stage at very low distortion levels.

The dual stereo preamplifiers closely meet the exact RIAA specifications with extended frequency range at both LF and HF frequencies.

The unit has been designed, laid out and constructed with particular care to minimize hum and noise from power supplies and external sources.

The unit is rack mountable and is mains powered using an integrated circuit switch mode supply that can operate from any mains voltage between 85 and 285 volts ac.

The Alice RiAA (advanced phono pre-amplifier) has been specifically designed for transcription and broadcast use with quality vinyl records. The dual stereo preamplifiers closely meet the exact RIAA specifications with extended frequency range at both LF and HF frequencies. The unit has been designed, laid out and constructed with particular care to minimize hum and noise from power supplies and external sources.

FACILITIES
Inputs are via two pairs of RCA type phono connector sockets. The upper (white) socket is for the left amplifier and the lower (red) socket is for the right amplifier. Outputs are via 3-pin XLR type sockets for left and right outputs. Main’s input is via IEC mains socket. A blue LED indicates that power has been applied.

ADJUSTMENTS
Multiturn pre-set controls (between the input and output terminations) give output level control to match various pickup types. As new, the unit is set to give outputs in the range of -10dBu for most professional moving magnet pickups. The range of control available via the pre-set is 14dB. Removal of the top cover exposes the circuitry and a series of headers that can be set. Headers H1 to H4 offer different capitative loads to the pickup. Altering the loading will affect the high frequency response. As new, the headers are set to the left-hand position and this is likely to be correct for most pickups. Headers H5 to H8 are to enable or disable high-pass filters for the 4 channels. With the links to the left the filters are disabled. The filters may be enabled (links to the right) to minimize ultralow frequency sensitivity that can cause problems with tracking. The high-pass filters are 12dB/8ve with the 3dB point set at 18Hz. So they are not audible in operation. Headers H9 to H12 are to enable ‘normal’ or ‘high’ audio output level. With the links to the left the outputs are ‘normal’, that is, approx. -10dBu. With the links to the right the outputs are increased to 0dB.
