Maag PREQ2 - Dual Mic Preamp with EQ
The Maag PREQ2 is a dual microphone preamp and EQ featuring Maag's highly renowned Air band shelving EQ. The PREQ2 has both mic, and line level inputs meaning it can be used in both recording and mixing.
Microphone Input
The Maag PREQ2 mic preamp has up to 71dB of gain split between a discrete class-A transistor preamp along with a large, nickel-core Maag Audio-built input transformer. This circuit offers a clean, detailed sound with +27dBu of headroom and an ein noise level of 128dB. There are two optimized gain ranges selectable on the front panel. The default gain range is +20dB to +42dB and a +42dB to +71dB gain range in high gain mode using the front panels 25dB gain switch.
DI and instrument/mic re-amping
As well as a microphone preamp, the PREQ2 also functions as a re-amp box. When an instrument is plugged into the DI input of either channel, it is buffered and multed back out the instrument Mic thru Jack at unity gain. This allows you to process the DI signal, and also route the signal to a guitar amp. With just a microphone attached to the balanced XLR Mic input, that mic signal will be multed, amplified by +20dB, and routed out the 1⁄4-inch Instrument Mic Thru jack. This is a quick and easy way to route the microphone signal to a speaker or stomp box without the need for additional interfaces.
Legendary EQ
The PREQ2 features and innovative 3-band EQ consisting of a highpass filter, low-frequency boost and Maags famous Air Band. The PREQ2’s Air Band offers up to 9dB of shelving boost at 2.5, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 40kHz and shares a single hardwired bypass with the LF section.
