The Neumann KU 100 Binaural Dummy Head Microphone captures sound the way a listener hears it. Two omnidirectional condenser capsules sit inside lifelike ears on a head-shaped body, so recordings played back on good headphones place the listener at the recording position, with convincing left-right, front-back and height cues and a natural sense of the room around them.

Unlike earlier dummy heads, the KU 100 is diffuse-field equalised, so its recordings also translate well over loudspeakers, giving a stereo image comparable to a conventional pair but with extra depth and space. It is widely used for audio drama, classical and ambient music, immersive and VR content, and for acoustic measurement and noise analysis work.

Transformerless electronics keep self-noise low and allow up to 135dB SPL, or 145dB with the internal pad engaged. It can run from P48 phantom power, its internal batteries or an external mains supply.
